

Tom Angstead – Pastor / Elder

Tom was born in 1954 in San Francisco and moved with his family to Phoenix in 1960. Tom met his wife Ann in 1974, and they were married in 1976. God graciously saved both Tom and Ann within weeks of each other in 1983. They have two married daughters Krista Pratchard and Lisa McInturf and four grandsons and one granddaughter. Over the past 17 years Tom has served on the boards of several para-church organizations, served an elder at East Valley Bible Church (Gilbert) and currently is a chaplain to the City of Tempe Police. Tom came to Grace Bible Church as an elder in March of 2003 and is the chairman of the elder board.

Steve Brotherton – Pastor / Elder

Steve is a third generation Phoenix native. Since becoming a Christian in 1973, Steve has served Christ’s body in various roles including deacon, smallgroup leader, and pre-marital class facilitator. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University in 1974, Steve taught public school for several years, was on staff as Children’s Pastor for Open Door Fellowship Church in Phoenix, and is currently employed in the sales profession. Steve and his wife, Janie, were married in 1974, and have four adult children and one granddaughter. Steve and Janie have been part of the Grace Bible Church family since 2005

Scott Demarest – Pastor / Elder

Scott was born on the mission field in Nigeria, and spent his childhood years in Africa and England. He moved to the US in 1975. Scott came to Christ in repentance and faith in 1981. He attended the University of Colorado where he studied Electrical Engineering. Scott moved to the Phoenix area in 1991 to work in the software industry.He has attended Grace since November 2003. Scott provides oversight to missions from our church and leads Parenting With a Purpose classes. Scott and his wife Sarah have been married since 1990 and are blessed with three children.

Jacob Hantla – Pastor / Elder

Jacob was saved in 1999 after his first semester at Arizona State University where he studied and graduated with degrees in biomedical engineering and nursing. Jacob was a founding member and deacon of the East Valley Bible Church (which later was renamed Grace Bible Church) church plant in 2001. Shortly afterward, he married Kiki, and they led their smallgroup together since the founding of the church. Jacob has also served in missions (Mexico among Huichol people), Next Generation (children’s), campus, cleaning, BUILD leadership training, and web ministries. Jacob works for Arizona Heart Anesthesia as a nurse anesthetist. Jacob and Kiki have two children, Elianna and David. Jacob’s parents, Jeff and Lorie, are members Grace Bible Church.

Mark Kronwald – Pastor / Elder

Mark graduated from Arizona State University College of Business with a degree in Business Administration. He pursued a career in the restaurant business until 1997. He currently works as a real estate and business investor. Mark attended Grace Community Church during his college years and it was there he met his wife Carol and first served in church leadership. In 1979 they moved to Bethany Community Church where he served as a teacher and elder until 1991. In 1991 they moved to East Valley Bible Church where he served as a teacher, discipleship group leader, and elder. Mark was commissioned to be a member of the leadership team to start the East Valley Bible Church plant and is a founding elder of Grace Bible Church. Mark and Carol have been residents of Tempe since 1978. They have four adult children and seven grandchildren.

Scott Maxwell – Pastor / Elder

After graduating from the University of Nebraska with a degree in education, Scott taught public school in southern California for two years. Scott and his wife Kim married during that time and soon attended and graduated from The Master’s Seminary in 1995 with a Masters of Divinity degree. Scott then served on the pastoral staff at Camelback Bible Church in Paradise Valley over eight years until late 2003. He has been serving as the senior pastor at Grace Bible Church since December of 2003. Scott just completed his coursework for a Doctorate of Ministry in Expository Preaching at The Master’s Seminary. Scott and Kim live in Tempe with their three children, Elisa, Sidney, and Jayce.

Smedly Yates – Pastor / Elder

Smedly came to Grace Bible Church as an elder in March of 2008. Smedly, his wife Janet, and their kids moved to Arizona from Nashville, Tennessee, where Smedly served as pastor of student ministries at Community Bible Church. Smedly and Janet were married in May of 2000 while in graduate school in California. They have five children: Evi, Zoe, Emet, Grace, & Madeline.
Smedly graduated from The Master’s Seminary, and Janet earned a master’s degree in Biblical Counseling from The Master’s College. Both Smedly and Janet graduated from the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.

Eric Martin – Pastor / Elder Intern

Eric was born and raised in Ohio. Upon graduation from the Ohio State University in 1996, he moved to Arizona where he began and continues to work as an engineer in the software industry for a defense contractor. However, it wasn’t until April 1, 2000 that his heart was radically transformed by God such that he turned from his sins to follow Jesus Christ. Eric immediately started attending East Valley Bible Church in Gilbert and was a founding member of the church plant in 2001 that became Grace Bible Church. Eric has served GBC in a number of capacities. He has been a teacher in the Next Generation Ministry, a small group leader, deacon over the elementary ministry, and co-lead the parenting class. He currently serves in the BUILD leadership development ministry and is an Elder-Pastor intern with oversight of the Elementary ministry. He and his wife Sarah have been married since 2003 and God has blessed them with three precious children, Isaiah, Nathan, and Gabrielle.
