Why Do Christians Sing? (Student Ministries 8/25/24)

Dear Student Ministries Parents,

Yesterday, Kris Drent taught the second of a three-part series on worship. This week, we specifically focused on corporate worship: Why Do Christians Sing? We played a fun game, sang together, learned from Kris, and then gathered in discussion groups. 

It was SO GOOD! I personally benefited greatly from the lesson. As we aim to do each week, we recorded the lesson (gbcaz | YouTube) a discussion guide. I encourage you, parents, to review the lesson with your students. The discussion guide is designed to help you in that process, to know what kinds of questions to ask. 

These discussion questions are a good guide for your family time in the Word or in sermon debrief as well. When we read the Bible or listen to a sermon we must be able to answer the question, “What was taught/what did it mean?” But that isn’t where we stop. We move, secondly, to application by asking, “How should this affect you.” Please review the discussion guide.

I encouraged the students to be able to give themselves a little mini sermon before they sing corporately each week in Sunday morning service as well at Student Ministries. It’s so easy to enter corporate worship with an aim far lower than what God calls us to in our singing of praises to him. Help your student (and yourself) come up with a memorable mini-sermon-to-self and prepare your hearts this week for what is coming up next Sunday and every time we gather.
