The Privilege of Prayer (Part 3)

Tom Angstead February 24, 2014

In order for me to understand that prayer is a privilege I must understand the purpose of Prayer.  I must understand why God has called me to pray.  Prayer is not about getting God to give me what I want!

 The purpose of Prayer

Personally Relating to God

God is a person and He has called me to glorify Him.  I desire to praise Him, serve Him and personally relate to Him.

some verses to consider

Psalm 62:5-8

Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from Him.  He alone is my rock and my  salvation, my stronghold; I will not be shaken. salvation and glory depend on God, my strong rock. My refuge is in God. Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him.  God is our refuge.

Isaiah 43:7

everyone called by My name and created for My glory. I have formed him; indeed have made him.

Being Part of What God Wants to Accomplish

I do not want prayer to be me-centered about what I want.  I want my prayer time to  be about God.  About what God wants to accomplish in my life and in this world.

My prayer:  Lord I desire that my prayer life would bring you glory.  I desire to pray in a manner that would prepare me to be Your instrument here on earth.  Lord I pray for my church that we would be men and women boys and girls that live a life in utter dependance on you.  Lord I pray that we would be a church that would make Your Name famous locally and all over the world.  Lord thank you for allowing us to be Your instruments today.
