How to Read Your Bible, Part 1
Dear Parents of Student Ministries,
We had a wonderful meeting yesterday. I will continue to send weekly summaries of what your students are learning. This is because I truly desire for Student Ministries to support you in disciplining and evangelizing your children so that they may become mature in Christ, grown into members of the church body. I pray that what we do serves as a tool to help you toward that aim.
Last night’s lesson explained the LUBOT prayer that we encourage your students to pray before every sermon and each time they open the Bible. It also explained the reasoning from Scripture for the three-question format of the note-taking sheets. I hope your students are filling out each day when they read the Bible. I am convinced that the extra time to prayerfully write responses to these three questions will pay eternal dividends.
If you would like ideas on how to incorporate these tools into your family devotions, please email me or call/text. Alternatively, reach out to one of your student’s discussion group leaders.
In last night’s sermon, I had the pleasure of continuing our teaching on the Bible with How to Read the Bible, Part 1. We examined 2 Corinthians 3:15-18 and discussed the importance of removing the veil (or the “darkness of understanding”, see Ephesians 4:17-18) that lies over our natural unbelieving hearts and minds so that we can see God and His Glory in the Bible in the face of Jesus Christ. To understand the Bible correctly—in a way that enables us to respond with belief, obedience, and trust—we need God to work a miracle to allow us to see God in His Word and respond to Him with faith, worship, obedience, trust, and love. That can only happen “When one turns to the Lord” (2 Cor 3:16).
You can watch a video of the sermon or listen to the audio on the SM webpage. Additionally, please download the discussion guide, which will help you discuss what your students learned with them.
Thank you so much for entrusting us with your student.
Your servant for His glory,
Jacob Hantla, Pastor/Elder
