Don’t Murder (from your heart)
Dear Parents of Student Ministries,
Last night, Student Ministries met and picked up where we left off a few months ago from the Sermon on the Mount, focusing on Matthew 5:21-22:
21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.
The sermon is available on YouTube, along with a downloadable discussion guide for you to review with your student. Next week, we will build on these insights as we study Matthew 5:23-26, applying the principles we’re learning about interpreting Scripture.
I’d also like to highlight a new attendee, Jude Cann, who joined us remotely from Papua New Guinea. The Cann family, missionaries from our church serving in Maweroro, PNG, have been listening to the messages and reading along with Student Ministries. With Starlink Internet, Jude participated as if he were right here with us—his iPad sat on a chair alongside the students, and he joined in discussion groups. Jude plans to attend whenever possible, and we hope this connection will encourage him as well as remind us to pray for their family and deepen our mutual love. Please help your students, especially junior high boys, to interact and engage substantively with Jude.
Lastly, here are some upcoming gatherings to mark on your calendar:
- Thursday, 10/31 at 5:30 p.m. at the Yates’
- Christmas Party on 12/13
- Winter Camp from 2/14-2/16
- Summer Camp from 6/5-6/8
It’s a privilege to serve the church and Student Ministries. Thank you for your support and prayers.
Sincere thanks,
Jacob Hantla
