Music Devotion by Matt York

Psalm 19:14
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

In this humble and sincere prayer, David knew his heart was prone to wander and we learn from the previous verses (7-11) in this chapter the high value David placed on God’s word to safeguard his heart. The 19thPsalm ends on a very personal note highlighting David’s desire for acceptance from His Creator. The final two words are not to be overlooked. “Rock”, meaning immovable, demonstrates that God cannot be shaken and “Redeemer”, meaning, “to avenge or rescue as kinsman”, or more literally, “to save a family member”.  David’s use of redeemer is extremely personal and revealing—God’s redemption of His own people is not a detached act of cosmic, sovereign workings, rather, our redemption comes from Abba Father to the rescue of His children. What a mighty and faithful savior we serve!
