Music Devotion by Matt York

Matthew 4:20
At once they left their nets and followed Him.

In Matthew’s passage, Peter and Andrew were casting their nets when the Divine calling (vs 19) to “Follow Me” changed their lives for all eternity. We see the immediacy (“At once”) in which the disciples acted to follow Christ. No affairs were put in order, no goodbyes, no thinking it over. Ambition and goals were no longer of importance because the Master had spoken. Luke 5:11b records the moment this way: “…they left everything and followed Him”. This too, Christian, is our calling. Since the Master has awakened our hearts, personal aspiration must not impede our liberating servitude to Him. May the words of English pastor Henry Lyte (1793-1847) be our prayer this week as we prepare our hearts for worship this Sunday.

“Jesus, I my cross have taken
All to leave and follow thee
Destitute, despised, forsaken
Thou from hence my all shall be
Perish every fond ambition
All I’ve sought or hoped or known
Yet how rich is my condition
God and heaven are still my own”

By Grace Alone,

His Mercy Is More
How Deep the Father’s Love for Us
Before the Throne
Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken
