Music for June 17
Music Devotion by Matt York
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God—
We will be re-introducing an older song this Sunday and we are blessed to be in a body where the elders insist every word we sing matters. In this week’s music devotion, I’d like to help you prepare not only with the song’s lyrics but the passages behind them as we continually cultivate a heart of thankfulness in our worship.
By faith, we see the hand of God
In the light of creation’s grand design;
(Genesis 1:1) (Ps 19:1-6)
In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness,
Who walk by faith and not by sight.
(II Cor 5:7)
By faith, our fathers roamed the earth
With the power of His promise in their hearts
Of a holy city built by God’s own hand,
A place where peace and justice reign.
We will stand as children of the promise, (Gal 4:29)
We will fix our eyes on Him, our soul’s reward. (I Peter 1:9)
Till the race is finished and the work is done, (II Tim 4:7)
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight. (II Cor 5:7)
By faith, the prophets saw a day
When the longed-for Messiah would appear
(Is 53:5-6; I Peter 1:10-11)
With the power to break the chains of sin and death,
And rise triumphant from the grave.
(I Cor 15:55-57) (Ps 16:10-11)
By faith, the church was called to go
In the power of the Spirit to the lost
To deliver captives and to preach good news,
In every corner of the earth.
By faith, this mountain shall be moved
And the power of the gospel shall prevail,
For we know in Christ all things are possible
For all who call upon His name.
Solei Deo Gloria!
