Music for October 11
He was despised and forsaken of men,
A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
And like one from whom men hide their face
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
Surely our griefs He Himself bore,
And our sorrows He carried;
Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten of God, and afflicted.
But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.
Before he became a man and walked this earth, almighty God gave these words to the prophet Isaiah to tell of His Son who was to come. One would hardly think that the Son of the most high God would be acquainted with words like despised, forsaken, sorrows and grief. Yet this was God’s plan for His Son Jesus, that He would become a man to be pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. He would become the perfect sacrifice so that His chosen people might be healed. The stone was rolled away and the tomb was empty. Hallelujah, God be praised! He’s risen from the grave!
