Hebrews 12:1-3

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

The writer of Hebrews is focused on one single beacon of strength and hope amidst a world of sin and obstacles. To fight off easily-entangling sin, the author encourages his readers to wrestle to keep the cross-enduring Christ at the center of their focus, a feat that doesn’t come naturally. Indeed, despite YAHWEH giving us immeasurable reasons to praise and bless His name, we still need His help and power to keep our gaze upon Him and the gospel of His Son. We would do well to never lose the wonder of the cross of Christ. Let us unite under, and always remember, the reigning grace of our risen Savior!
