Luke 6:47-49
“Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like:
he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.
“But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.”

Jesus gives us credentials in Luke 6 regarding what a solid foundation looks like and what it should be able to stand against. Jesus equates hearing and acting on His words with a man who builds upon the rock, a foundation which stood up against torrential floods. Not only did the rocky foundation pass the flood’s test, but it was not even shaken. Jesus then equates a man who hears His words but does not act upon them with a man who built upon no foundation at all. As we might expect, his house was demolished by the storm. How important is it for us to not only hear God’s word but also act upon what we hear? It is vital! And it is crucial that we not lean on our own power to act upon what we hear from God’s word, but to rely on our one true Foundation, Jesus Christ, to help us live out what he has given us through His word! We need not fear any storm this world contains when we build our lives upon Christ!
