1 Timothy 1:15-17
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
How can we be taken deeper into the glories of Calvary? As Paul was discovering the astonishing glory and boundless mercy of Christ more and more he was also seeing himself for what he truly was: a depraved and helpless sinner. Those two revelations must go hand in hand. A higher view of God will lead to a lower view of ourselves. A greater awareness of our sin will further lead us to seek out and trust solely in the perfect blood of Christ. Thus, God takes us deeper into the glories of Calvary by revealing His holiness, revealing our sin and showing us the magnitude of His wrath that was appeased at the cross.
