Philippians 1:6
For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus

I have been encouraged by this verse this week. We see that the work God began in the Philippian believers through Paul was guaranteed to be perfected until “the day of Christ Jesus” when their heavenly reward was to be realized. In this text, we can be assured this satisfying truth: God finishes what He begins. It is in the sanctifying middle ground between justification and glorification that the fortitude of our faith is tested and like the Philippians, God will finish what He begins in our lives as well. Sunday we will sing “Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken”, notably “Go then, earthly fame and treasure, come disaster, scorn and pain; in Thy service, pain is pleasure, with Thy favor, loss is gain”. Such an appropriate response for a believer whose heart is stayed on Christ. O Christian, grasp tightly the hope that encompasses this verse that God’s perfect plan cannot be revised as we boldly proclaim, “No power of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck me from His hand, ’til He returns or call me home, here in the power of Christ I’ll stand”. That’s exactly where I want to stand, in His unalterable will sustained by the power of the One who fashioned the heavens, conquered death and who breathed life into our lifeless souls. His good work will be perfected because God finishes what He begins.

Soli Deo Gloria.
