GBC Monday Update: 7-13-20
Greetings beloved saints of Grace Bible Church,
Over the past few months since the coronavirus surfaced and the ensuing shut downs began, I Thessalonians 2:17 has been regularly in my thoughts: “But we, brethren, having been taken away from you for a short while – in person, not in spirit – were all the more eager with great desire to see your face.” In some respects, we find ourselves in a similar situation to Paul who was taken away from his beloved Thessalonian church. I do hope that the distance that has been created between us increases our desire to see one another face to face. That would be an incredible blessing from this time apart!
After Timothy’s return and report about the Thessalonians, Paul could still rejoice, although he could not see them in person: “for this reason, brethren, in all our distress and affliction we were comforted about you through your faith; for now we really live, if you stand firm in the Lord” (I Thess. 3:7-8). Similarly, we rejoice so long as you stand firm! If, during this time apart from the corporate gathering of Grace Bible Church, your faith toward God is publicly evident as you proclaim the gospel (I Thess. 1:8) and if it increases your desire for Christ’s coming rescue (1 Thess. 1:10; 4:13-17), then you will be well equipped to stand firm! I pray that it is so!
Smallgroups will continue meeting in ways that most helpfully serve the needs of the members in each group as the smallgroup leaders give careful consideration to the care of their group. Not meeting on Sunday mornings makes Smallgroups an even more essential part of caring well for one another. If you are currently not connected to a smallgroup, we strongly encourage you to do so, even if your participation will be virtual for the foreseeable future. If you need assistance identifying a smallgroup to join, please contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org) and I would love to assist you.
Book of the Month:
Our book of the month for July is Letters on Christian Education ($7). The book includes nine short letters written by an anonymous Christian woman to her friend on parenting. These letters were originally published in the mid-1800s. As the publisher writes, “You will find in them sound biblical counsel and practical personal advice concerning the training and education of children — from infants just entering the world to teens about to leave the home and face the world on their own.” You can purchase a copy at the booktable’s online store and we will deliver it to your home address.
If you have any questions or shepherding needs that arise, please reach out to the elders (email@example.com).
Grace to you all.
Your servant for His sake,
Omri Miles, Elder Intern
on behalf of the elders of Grace Bible Church
