Grace Bible Church (formally known as East Valley Bible Church Tempe) was started as a church plant by East Valley Bible Church (Gilbert) in April of 2001. Under the leadership of its senior pastor (Walter Crutchfield) and its leadership, the church was passionate to penetrate Tempe and the ASU campus with the gospel. Our first church ‘home’ was the campus of Gililand Junior High School in north Tempe.

God blessed us with great numerical growth in our first 18 months, primarily among the college and young adult demographic. To better accommodate our growing body, we moved to the campus of Tempe High School in November of 2002.

God led us through a period of testing in 2002 and 2003 that saw the resignation of Walter and other leaders. A transitional leadership team consisting of Brian Iserman, James Schofield and Chris Daukas was formed in early 2003 to lead us through those difficult months. God remained faithful in His provision to us. He added wisdom and stability to our leadership when He brought Tom Angstead to us as chairman of the elder board in March of 2003. God again demonstrated His grace to us by bringing Scott Maxwell as our senior pastor in November of 2003.

Our church vision and purpose statements were formalized in October of 2004. We seek to glorify the Father by living the cross-centered life of Jesus through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. We seek to accomplish these things by drawing in the lost, building them up in the truth of God’s word, and sending them out into the community in which God has placed them.

God continued His provision to us by leading us into a tenant relationship with Gethsemane Lutheran Church in April of 2005. We were blessed by their facilities as well as by their gracious and hospitable staff for 5 years.

Now, as of August 2010, God has provided the opportunity for us to meet at Valley Christian High School in Chandler.

Overseas missions have taken on an increasing presence and priority in our church body.
